And another fun BBC SPARQL query
By Yves on Monday 15 June 2009, 13:53 - Permalink
This query returns BBC programmes featuring artists originating from France (this is just a straight adaptation of the last query in my previous post).
The results are quite fun! Apparently, the big French hits on the BBC are from Jean-Michel Jarre, Air, Modjo, Phoenix (are they known in France? I've only heard of them in the UK) and Vanessa Paradis.
Note that the tracklisting data we expose in our RDF just goes back a couple of months, so that might explain why the list is not bigger.

Jean-Michel Jarre definitely is. I remember years ago when I was on a trip through Brittany and Normandy with my father we wanted to go see Mont Saint-Michel. However kilometers before reaching it there was a huge traffic jam. After asking people it turned out Jean-Michel Jarre was giving a concert in Mont Saint-Michel. I still feel sorry for the people who bought tickets because many of them couldn't make it there in time. My father and I however stayed on a field overnight (there was no way of getting there) and enjoyed the light show and faint music from the distance. :]
And the light show really was massive as we could see from the large scaffolding they were deconstructing the next day.
Jarre’s appearance might have something to do with the fact that he’s currently touring… I’m surprised though that Daft Punk doesn’t show up in the list!
Wrt. Daft Punk, yes it is not in that list but it is in that one:

The problem comes from the fact that the query is looking for artists directly associated with France, whereas Daft Punk is associated with Paris in DBpedia.
Actually, the following query gives more results than the one in that post - it doesn't constrain the relationship between the artist and France to being "originated from".

And well spotted for Jarre's appearance :-)
